5th Annual Remembering Ben Tucker Memorial Concert To Be Held

The 5th annual “Remembering Ben Tucker Memorial Jazz Jam” will be held on June 3, 2018, at 3-5 pm, at Wright Square on Bull Street in historic Savannah, GA. This is a free concert for all ages. This years event will feature some of the Coastal Empire’s finest jazz musicians including Teddy Adams on trombone, Randy Reese on sax and flute, Eric Jones on piano, Mitch Hennis on bass, Robert Saunders on drums, Kirk Lee on trumpet, Howard Paul on guitar, and Gina Rene vocals. This annual celebration is one of many events organized by the Friends of Ben, Inc. to preserve and protect Ben Tucker’s legacy. In the words of Ben Tucker, “Let’s Make it Happen!”

Everyone is invited to celebrate the life of Ben Tucker. We honor Ben’s memory the way he lived, with music and a smile. If you are a long time native, a new comer to Savannah, or just visiting the “Hostess City” we invite everyone to join us for this annual free concert in celebration of our friend Ben.

Ben Tucker had many talents and gifts and one that stood out the most was his gift of service through music. Ben was a very successful musician, businessman, community champion and leader. The common thread that ran through his many accomplishments was his commitment and determination to improve Savannah’s entire community. Ben made Savannah his home for over 40 years. He bridged gaps with business, race, age, and gender throughout our society. Ben inspired everyone he met.

We thank most of all Mrs. Gloria Tucker who still enjoys dancing to the music at the young age of 91. She continues to share her husband with all of us. Mrs. Tucker is a founding member of Friends of Ben, Inc., established in 2015. She has established a scholarship to continue the legacy of her husband’s contributions to the youth of this community. A suggested donation of $10 will help fund this scholarship for high school students who will major in music in college.

This free event is sponsored by Friends of Ben, Inc. and Coastal Jazz Association. We are so grateful for the outstanding jazz musician representing Coastal Jazz Association and the Coastal Empire for playing at this event each year. We also wish to thank our many supporters and you for joining us to keep Ben’s legacy alive. This concert would not be possible without the support received from the City of Savannah Leisure Services Bureau, Coastal Jazz Association, WTOC, WSAV and Lutheran Church of the Ascension, Connect Savannah, Savannah Tribune newspaper, Do Savannah, and many others who extended their helping hands to make this event happen.
