Armstrong State University’s Sigma Tau chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. hosted their 2nd annual “Hoop For Heart Health” basketball tournament. The event was held on February 3, during the sorority’s annual “Pink Goes Red For Heart Health Day,” at Armstrong’s Student Recreation Center.

The impact day celebrates the sorority’s partnership with the American Heart Association’s (AHA) “Go Red For Women,” which strives to raise awareness concerning heart disease among women.

Eight teams of five paid a fee to participate, and spectators paid $1 and at least one school supply to enter. All of the proceeds will be donated to the AHA and the school supplies will go toward the sorority’s “One Million Backpacks” campaign—a program that provides backpacks and school supplies to students in need.

The winning team received trophies and customized “Pink Goes Red 2017 Hoop For Heart Health” t-shirts from the chapter. The chapter’s goal was to promote exercise and heart health to Armstrong students, while also bringing together the campus for an evening of charity and fun.
