
The 20th Annual Summer Bonanza held their kickoff last Saturday, May 23rd at the Moses Jackson Center located on Richard St. in West Savannah.
This mentoring program registers children from ages 7-14.. Special Guests included: Chatham County School Superintendent Dr. Ann Levett, local musical artists Kevin Crawford and Gigi Jordan, and 2015 Georgia State Panthers Basketball All-Star Malik Benlevi!!
Over 135 children have registered so far for the Summer Program
During the kickoff our volunteers received CPR training by Chatham County Risk Management Director Nathan Benson. They also had workshops on Vital Roles of Volunteers & Advisory Board Members, and Safeguarding our Children, Chatham County, and Summer Bonanza Partnership, Inc.
The Summer Bonanza is one of the two Chatham County Youth Initiatives founded by Dr. Priscilla Thomas, Retired County Commissioner.. The Program exposes children to local government, cultural diversity, healthy choices, and positive role models in various businesses. Summer Bonanza
The Program Director for Summer Bonanza Partnership, Incorporated is Angelia Dorsey. Her commitment to serving the citizens of Chatham County is evident in her chosen profession as Program’s Manager with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office. She has served in various capacities with the Sheriff’s Office for over thirty years. Under her leadership, the Programs Department is dedicated to reducing recidivism by providing quality programs and services to the inmate population to assist them with a successful reentry into the community. In addition to the twelve inmate programs she administers, she has chaired the United Way fundraising events and March of Dimes Campaign for the Sheriff’s Office.
