The 2017 Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Weekend is set to begin on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 in Bluffton, South Carolina. All events are free and open to the public.
On Wednesday, January 11 at 2:00 PM, the League of Women Voters Forum will be holding a discussion on race relations titled “Creating the Beloved Community: A Conversation about Race Relations” at Campbell Chapel AME Church (25 Boundary St, Bluffton, SC).
On Friday, January 13, Congregation Beth Yam (4501 Meeting St, Hilton Head Island, SC) will be holding an Ecumenical Community Worship Service at 7:30 PM. Residents, visitors, clergy, young, and old are all invited.
Saturday, January 14th is MLK Community Service Day at All Saints Episcopal Church Parish Hall (3001 Meeting St, Hilton Head Island, SC). The event will last from 8:00 AM-12:00 PM and breakfast will be served to volunteers and the service project section between 8:00 AM-9:00 AM followed by community work projects with team leaders until noon.
The MLK Memorial March will start (and end) at HHI High School Parking Lot on Monday, January 16th at 10:00 AM. The MLK Memorial Program, which will include musical presentations, MLK Community Service awards, and the presentation of the MLK essay Contest awards will follow at 11:00 AM at the HHI High School Seahawk Cultural Center. A Community Luncheon will also be held at 12:30 PM at the HHI High School Cafeteria to close out the morning.
